Planning a Frugal Island Wedding
Themed weddings are very popular, and the beach wedding seems to be the top of romantic spots to get married. If you want to spend more on the engagement rings and the honeymoon than the wedding, it does not mean you have to forego the beach wedding. There are ways to get the island beach wedding of your dreams without having to pay too much. The first thing to look at is the choice of islands. The second thing is the choice of planner. Finally, you can save a bundle by letting nature be your decorator.
Island Choices
The further you have to travel the more it’s going to cost you and your guests to show up to your wedding. There are some beautiful beaches that are not on islands that still have the feel of an island getaway, like the Outer Banks in North Carolina, or Galveston, in Texas. You don’t have to go all the way to Hawaii to have an actual island wedding, either. You can opt for other islands that are closer and less expensive to host your wedding. Just remember that if you’re trying to get the wedding for June, odds are there are plenty of brides ahead of you. Island and beach weddings are hugely popular and need much more advance reservations than one done at a local church.
Wedding Planner
Couples may try to save money by planning the wedding themselves. If you’ve already chosen an exotic destination, the likelihood of being able to plan it from where you currently reside goes down. However, that does not mean you have to hire an expensive wedding planner who will make trips back and forth and charge you for the luxury. Instead, seek out a hotel on the beach at your destination that is willing to host your wedding. Since weddings bring in lots of business to the hotel with out-of-state visitors and people there for the festivities, it’s like hosting a captive audience that is going to end up spending all their money right there at the hotel. What hotel manager does not love that idea? So, do not be surprised that the hotel already knows how to plan your wedding and can offer a variety of suggestions to get it done at a reasonable cost. Ask to see their various wedding packages. The cost may be high, but they will usually include almost everything you want, and you didn’t have to hire a wedding planner on top of that, too. Essentially, they end up being a bargain.
The Scenery
You’re at the beach, so let Mother Nature provide some of the drama and interest to your wedding. Saying your vows as the sun set on the beach is very romantic. It provides photographs you can’t even imagine and it is really delightful for the people attending your wedding. If you have the wedding on the beach and you are not hiring someone to make sure you have everything, do make sure you have the permits necessary to be able to do your vows there. Also, use the backdrop to reduce the amount of flowers that you use to decorate and let the natural beach grasses and sand serve as the backdrop. Add some breezy fabrics that can capture the swaying breezes off the water and provide a focal point for your guests. Make the bride a part of the scenery by opting for beach themes in the wedding attire with wedding sarongs, upswept hair styles, beach-themed jewelry, and beaded or jeweled sandals. Once the wedding is over, if you are doing the hotel package, you can often go right back to the hotel on the beach in a more protected area to have your reception. There, you might opt for more decorations, once you are indoors.
